Call for Stories

Who: Adults in Literacy and Adult Education Programs in Charlotteville City and Albemarle, Fluvanna, Greene, Louisa, and Nelson counties.
What: A Writing Contest and Event. Sixfteen writers will win $25 each.
Topics: Choose one theme from the following:
  • Education::  
Why is it important to you? What valuable lessons have you learned? How do you encourage others to learn?
  • Life Can Be Funny:  
Do you have a funny story to share? Did you see or do something that made you or others laugh? The story must be true.
  • Everyday Heroes:  
There are many heroes in our lives. Do you know one? Share a story about someone you consider a hero.
  • Work:  
What is your job? What do you do well? Why is it important? What do you like best about your job? Tell a story about a day at work; maybe it was your first day; maybe it was your best day.
Format: Writings must be typed and limited to 650 words or less. Please double-space with 1 inch margins and a 12-point font. Stories can be very short; there is no minimum length. Be creative! Original peoms are welcome. A completed entry form must be attached to all writings. See Rules and Tips for Writers. Awards will be chosen based upon story, originality, and clarity of writing. A team of RLCC members and community representatives will judge the writings.

Deadline for entries is February 9, 2012.

Awards Presentation: Thursday, March 22, 2012 at 6:00 PM at Burnley-Moran Elementary School, Charlottesville. All writers, their families, and friends are invited to attend. All writers will receive a copy.of Voices 2012
