Charlottesville's Adult Learning Center in the News

Since 2002, hundreds of University of Virginia employees have been profiting from GED and ESL offered by Charlottesville's Adult Learning Center. An article describing the program can be read here, and will continue as an "occasional series" with portraits of ten of the learners.

Conversation Corner at LVCA

Every Monday from 2 to 3 pm.in the main office, Literacy Volunteers Charlottesville/Albemarle will host an ongoing, informal gathering of students to practice conversational skills with a native speaker of English! Open to ESL learners with speaking skills at a high-beginning level and above. Encourage YOUR student to attend in order to strengthen their skills in between sessions. Scholarship Opportunity

Each year the GED Testing Service honors two recent GED graduates who are currently enrolled in an accredited college from the state in which their annual administrators conference is held. Since this year's conference is in Washington D.C., students from Virginia, Maryland, and the District will be eligible. During the Graduates Awards Dinner at the conference, each graduate will receive a one-time scholarship of $2,500! GED Testing Service(r) will send the checks directly to the designated institutions. 12 Festival of Cultures 10 - 4

This year's Festival in Lee Park partners with Celebrate! 250. While many Celebrate! 250 Events focus on history, the Festival of Cultures celebrates the present and future of who we are, native-born and newcomer alike.

Now in its 9th year, the Festival of Cultures celebrates the diversity of our community with music, dance, exhibits, crafts, and vendors. So pick up a passport at the information booth, travel the world in Lee Park, and meet your neighbors!
